It boasts iconic style and delivers performance and handling that you can depend on mile after mile. A direct competitor to the Road Glide® is the Indian Challenger. In fact, no motorcycle is compared more to the Road Glide®, and the time has come for us to review the 2021 Harley-Davidson® Road Glide® vs 2022 Indian Challenger.

Harley-Davidson® Road Glide®

The Road Glide® is one of the most popular touring machines in America, and the 2021 Harley-Davidson® Road Glide® has continued that tradition. The other most popular tourer in the H-D® lineup is the Street Glide and the main difference is that it has a fork-mounted fairing whereas the Road Glide® has a frame-mounted fairing. As you would expect from a modern tourer, the Road Glide® puts you in an upright riding position. It has floorboards, a passenger seat, saddlebags and an advanced touchscreen-based infotainment system. It gives you the option of RDRS, which is a suite of rider-assistance technologies. It also features the Milwaukee-Eight® 107 V-Twin engine and a chrome aesthetic. There are also several variants available. The Road Glide® Special comes with the Milwaukee-Eight® 114 and gives you the option of a blacked-out aesthetic. The Road Glide® Limited is similar to the Special but with an array of minor differences, and the CVO Road Glide® is aimed at the customer who wants a fully loaded custom bagger.

Indian Challenger

The 2022 Indian Challenger is now available through your local Indian dealer serving Rochester Dover Hampton Exeter New Hampshire and the surrounding areas. The Challenger is Indian’s interpretation of a modern bagger with classic inspiration. It has a fixed fairing, an upright riding position, an advanced infotainment system, a passenger seat, floorboards and saddlebags. It also has an antilock braking system, cruise control and an electronically adjustable windscreen. It is also available in two special editions—Limited and Dark Horse—and those adds some advanced features like Ride Command and Smart Lean. Powering the bike is PowerPlus, which is the latest liquid-cooled V-Twin engine from Indian.

Harley-Davidson® Road Glide® vs Indian Challenger

Comparing the 2021 Harley-Davidson® Road Glide® vs 2022 Indian Challenger reveals numerous similarities, and this probably does not come as a surprise to most. The name Challenger was not a coincidence. The Indian Challenger was designed to compete with the Road Glide® directly, and there is no question that Indian emulated a lot of what Harley-Davidson® does well with the Road Glide®. That said, it is not fair to call the 2022 Indian Challenger a rip-off or something along those lines. The Challenger is very much its own motorcycle, and comparisons like this one are certainly merited.

The modern American bagger has to strike delicate balance. It has to look a certain way and have a certain sound but also be comfortable, integrate advanced tech and meet increasingly demanding emissions and safety standards. Nobody in this space does this as well as Harley-Davidson®, and the Road Glide® really is a modern marvel. Still, the 2022 Indian Challenger impresses on this front as well and has perhaps benefited in some ways by being a bike built from scratch as opposed to an evolution. What Indian does not do well, however, is provide the Challenger with real character. The Road Glide® oozes charm, and it delivers a look, feel and sound that Indian has not achieved with its Challenger.
